Pluralistic counselling, single-session therapy, and relapse prevention are offered as distinct therapeutic services, each with its own focus and structure. All work is delivered ethically and relationally, drawing on person-centred, CBT and solution-focused approaches where appropriate, and is subject to clear contracting and informed consent.

Pluralistic Counselling
Point of Availability
This may suit you if you're looking for ongoing support and space to explore what's been weighing on you. Sessions are led by you, at your pace, and draw on holistic and evidence-based approaches
In one session, we explore a single concern and clarify what you would like to move toward. From there, we identify realistic solution-focused actions, with no follow-up sessions expected
This is for adults affected by drug and/or alcohol use who want to safely address unresolved problems causing addictive patterns of behaviour, rebuild stability and reconnect with their values and strengths
Your privacy is taken seriously. Any personal information you share with me is handled in line with UK GDPR and Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) requirements.
I collect only the information necessary to provide counselling and psychotherapy safely and professionally and to keep you safe. This may include contact details, brief background information, GP details, next of kin and very basic notes relating to our work together.
All session notes are kept securely and confidentially. They are not shared with others without your consent, except in rare situations where there is a serious risk of harm or a legal obligation to do so.
Your records are stored securely and retained in line with legal and insurance requirements. You have the right to access your personal data, request corrections and raise concerns about how your data is used.
A full Privacy Notice, explaining what information is collected, how it is stored, how long it is kept and your data protection rights, is available here: [Privacy Notice].
Working Agreement Basis
Important Note: Mettle Counselling and Psychotherapy support is not a substitute for psychological or medical treatment services. Adults requiring acute mental health or medical intervention will be signposted accordingly.
Please note that therapeutic confidentiality has limits. Information may need to be shared where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where disclosure is required by law. In such circumstances, it is my professional and ethical responsibility to act in line with safeguarding duties, with your wellbeing as my priority.
To ensure my practice is safe and effective, there are some practical foundations to how sessions are offered:
Concerns or Complaints
If you have any concerns about the counselling or therapy you receive, I encourage you to raise these with me directly in the first instance. Many concerns can be resolved through open discussion.
If you feel unable to raise a concern with me, or if you remain dissatisfied after doing so, you have the right to escalate your complaint to my professional bodies:
National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) Website: www.ncps.com
These organisations have formal complaints procedures and independent processes for reviewing concerns about professional practice and are established member organisations of the professional standards authority.
Qualifications, Standards & Ethics
My work is informed by formal training, ongoing clinical supervision, and a commitment to reflective and ethical practice. I believe it’s important that you know who you’re working with, how I’m trained, and the standards that guide my work.
At the heart of my practice is a person-centred approach. This provides a respectful, collaborative foundation in which you will be supported to explore your experiences at your own pace. Within this relationship, I draw on cognitive behavioural (CBT) and solution-focused approaches where appropriate, always guided by your needs, preferences and informed consent.
I continue to develop my practice through regular training and professional development. Alongside core counselling training, I have completed specialist training in areas including single-session therapy and drug and alcohol counselling. This allows me to work flexibly and responsively, while staying within my professional competence and ethical responsibilities.

I am a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (MNCPS Accredited) and an Advanced Practitioner Member of Addiction Professionals. This means my work is guided by recognised professional and ethical standards and subject to accountability and complaints procedures.
I hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance, am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), attend monthly clinical supervision, and take part in regular continuing professional development (CPD). These arrangements are in place to support safe, ethical practice and to protect both you as a client and me as your counsellor.
Before retraining as a counsellor at Southport College, I worked as a Recruiter and most recently in key roles within the Health and Social Care field, where I found real satisfaction in supporting people through periods of change and transition. My experience continues to inform my therapeutic work, particularly around identity, confidence, decision-making and change.
In my counselling practice, I work with adults (18+) from a wide range of gender identities, sexual orientations, faiths, beliefs, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds within established drug and alcohol services, suicide prevention settings, and health and wellbeing organisations across Southport, Bootle, and Chester.
I created Mettle Counselling and Psychotherapy to offer point of need mental health care alongside the traditional appointment based support to residents of Merseyside, Sefton, and West Lancashire primarily, I also welcome enquiries from other areas of the UK for secure video or phone call support.
